Hua Quan (化權) is the transformation of power. It attaches to one star, decided by your birth year's heavenly stem, and marks the part of life where you take charge whether or not anyone asked you to. It is the most double-edged of the four.
What Hua Quan actually does
Hua Quan hardens whatever it touches. The star it lands on gains drive, decisiveness and the ability to make things happen, and it loses flexibility in the same movement. Wherever it sits is where a person is most competent and least willing to be managed. In the Career Palace that reads as someone who ends up running things; in the Marriage Palace it reads as someone who cannot help correcting their partner. The classical texts associate it with 權柄, the handle of authority, and they are consistently more cautious about it than about Hua Lu, because authority applied to the wrong palace does damage that supply never would. The useful question with Hua Quan is never whether you have power in that area - you do - but whether the area deserves it.

Reading it honestly
Hua Quan is read best alongside the person's actual life rather than as a promise. It describes a disposition to take control, not a guarantee of holding it: many charts carry a strong Hua Quan into a job with no authority at all, and the pressure shows up as frustration or as micromanaging something small. Where it genuinely helps is in naming the blind spot. Almost nobody experiences their own Hua Quan palace as controlling; they experience it as being the only one who will do it properly. That gap is the whole reading.

Is Hua Quan good or bad?
Neither on its own. It gives capability and force in one area of life and takes away the willingness to be overruled there. In a career context that is usually an asset; in a marriage or a friendship it is the placement most likely to cost you something, because the same decisiveness reads as not listening.
What is the difference between Hua Quan and Hua Lu?
Hua Lu opens a channel and lets things flow in; Hua Quan takes hold of something and directs it. Lu is receiving, Quan is exerting. A chart with both in the same palace describes an area you both draw from and control, which classically reads as one of the stronger configurations available.
